The spark of what would become Menjo was born in 1989 when a Celtic bookworm and future poet named Adam “Poe” Wilson was made to join a football team, take swimming lessons, and join the Beavers.
Since that moment, nature and the outdoors have been a part of the Menjo story. Menjo is the common Celtic word for mountain, as mountains have been essential to Celtic history over the past 2000 years and are also at the heart of nature. This is why so many outdoor companies have chosen these wonderous behemoths as their symbols. While Menjo may share this symbol, it does not desire to be the same as other outdoor companies. We wish to be a social enterprise tying ourselves to nature, Celtic and indigenous people worldwide, preserving language and culture and protecting animals. That is a lot to ask of a start-up that has yet to post a profit, but ambition makes a business. No goals, no chance
